More than 4000 Amsterdammers treated. Lily Chen treats stress, overexertion and burnout with traditional Chinese medicine — in English, and covered by your Dutch health insurance.
Stress and burnout are among the most common complaints of our time. Whether it's ongoing work pressure, emotional exhaustion or a completely depleted energy level — conventional treatments often focus on symptoms, not on genuine recovery.
From a TCM perspective, stress arises from stagnation of Qi in the liver, while burnout stems from deep depletion of kidney energy (jing) and heart fire. Acupuncture resolves the stagnation, restores the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, and activates the body's own capacity to heal.
Lily places needles on specific points along the heart and liver meridians. This activates the vagus nerve, lowers cortisol levels and shifts the body back into recovery mode — away from the chronic "on" state of stress.
Sleep problems are almost universal with burnout. Treatment of the heart and kidney meridians supports a deeper, calmer sleep pattern. Many patients notice they sleep markedly better after just the first two sessions.
For exhausted burnout patients, Lily regularly adds moxibustion — a warming treatment that restores Yang energy and warms the body from within. Particularly effective for patients who feel cold, depleted and emotionally exhausted.

Burnout typically requires 8–12 sessions. Each session is adjusted based on your progress and energy levels.
Depending on your complaint, Lily adds moxibustion, gua sha or cupping. This is always decided together with you.
After the treatment plan, many patients opt for a monthly maintenance session to prevent relapse and renewed stress build-up.

Yes. With stress, the body still has enough capacity left to recover; with burnout, that capacity is exhausted. Acupuncture works for both, but the treatment course for burnout is longer — typically 8–12 sessions versus 4–6 for stress complaints.
This varies per person. Most patients notice improvement in sleep and energy levels after 3–4 sessions. Full burnout recovery typically requires 8–12 treatments, followed by maintenance sessions.
